According to Pastor Russell, ';Jehovah, the God of the true prophets, will put all false prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false prediction of such self-assuming prophets or by having His own prophecies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets.'; Could he be describing himself?
And who were this crazy people who were caught out Jehovah's witnesses.
The Bible says this.
Deuteronomy 18:20-22
';20But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.
21And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?';
Matt. 24:11,23-27
';11And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
23Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.
24For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
25Behold, I have told you before.
26Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.
27For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.';
Without the Bible we can look at what was predicted and in this case all the false prophecies by the Jehovah's witneses and we can tell that they are FALSEJehovah's Witnesses, How do you know if one is a false prophet with or without the Bible?
Christ's descriptions are very clear %26amp; apt:
';False Christs and false prophets will arise andl give signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, the chosen ones. You, then, watch out; I have told you all things beforehand.'; --Mark 13:22,23
';“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees [false religious leaders], hypocrites! because you resemble whitewashed graves, which outwardly indeed appear beautiful but inside are full of dead men’s bones and of every sort of uncleanness. In that way you also, outwardly indeed, appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.'; --Matthew 23:27,28
';You hypocrites, Isaiah aptly prophesied about YOU, when he said, ‘This people honors me with their lips, yet their heart is far removed from me. It is in vain that they keep worshiping me, because they teach commands of men as doctrines.’” --Matthew 15:7,8
“Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness. --Matthew 7:21-23
Obviously, those who do not teach what the Bible itself teaches, %26amp;/or teach things that are not taught in God's word, are false prophets. Christ made this very clear, while certain of his followers added a few points. All of these along with a thorough study of the entire Bible, the application of common sense, %26amp; guidance from God's holy spirit -- These are JW's tutors.Jehovah's Witnesses, How do you know if one is a false prophet with or without the Bible?
with they would not know.
without they would not know.
How could you know even with the bible?
Without the Bible, it would be pointless to ask about the identity of a false prophet. Why would we care if we are without the Bible? We want to determine God's viewpoint on the matter; therefore, we need God's word the Bible.
As to it, most people have in mind a definition found at Deuteronomy 18:20-22 which reads: ';But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.'; You may say to yourselves, ';How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?'; ';If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously.'; (NIV)
Are there any others? Yes, Deuteronomy 13:1-5 reads this way: ';If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, AND IF THE SIGN OR WONDER OF WHICH HE HAS SPOKEN TAKES PLACE, and he says, ';Let us follow other gods'; (gods you have not known) ';and let us worship them,'; you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul. It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way the Lord your God commanded you to follow.'; (NIV)
Do the teachings of the Lord Jesus agree? Most assuredly. Notice a portion of the composite sign he gave regarding the last days, found at Matthew 24:11, 23-27. Clearly, then, we must acknowledge that, according to God's word, even false prophets can give signs that actually come true. Conversely, a true prophet can be mistaken. So, the definition of a false prophet found at Deuteronomy 18, above, cannot be used to the exclusion of other scriptures which deal with the subject. God's word must be understood harmoniously. Moreover, it is beneficial to understand the meaning of the term prophecy as well as the definition of a false prophet in order to identify such.
Certainly to prophesy can mean to reveal future events but prophesying is by no means limited to such a narrow understanding. Prophecy is an inspired message; a revelation of the divine will and purpose of something to come, a moral teaching or an expression of a divine command or judgment. To illustrate, the account at Luke 22:63, 64 shows that Jesus' face was covered over so that he could not see. He then was struck and spit upon and the religious leaders commanded him to ';Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?'; Clearly, these ones were not asking Jesus to reveal future events; they were demanding that he, as the son of God, use divine revelation to identify who struck him even though his face was covered over. From this we can see that to prophesy does not necessarily mean to reveal future events.
Having said that, notice the focus of God's warning at Deuteronomy 13:1-5, mentioned above: the false prophet is using the sign to tell others : ';let us follow other gods'; (gods you have not known) ';and let us worship them. Yes, the false prophet is trying to lure away God's people to worship false gods. The fact that the sign came true was incidental. A false prophet, then, is one who is trying to turn us aside from worshiping the true God. If they are attempting to subvert our faith and cause us to stop serving the true God, of necessity they must be the false prophets!
