If you don't agree with another person's faith, that does not make either of you wrong. Faith is faith: it needs not to be explained to anyone.





When one faith tries to foster its tenets on another group that is another matter. Better you ask why one religion wants to make a civil law of its beliefs. for example: enslavement of women, wearing full-body coverings, abortion, divorce. These and many more ideas belong to religious faiths. Some people believe a woman's place is in the home and they are not to be in public alone or be allowed to drive a car. But when people from other nations visit a country, visiting woman can not drive their own rented cars.


People can feel that a woman's body is so evil it has to be hidden from everyone's eyes. but don't make that a rule when other people want to be out of their homes they have to be covered up.





Your view of who is false and who is not might be jaded by your religious up bringing. Don't let it get in the way of allowing people to live their faith as they want. If you want to impose yourself on others, then you have no right to complain when others win the right to make you abide by their faith.





And, further, looking at your statement ';there is no companion book to the Bible.'; Do you believe that all the Gods of the world spoke though just one collection of texts? Grow up.


Many cultures have their divine words. Many are even more loving and set a better example of living than the Bible. The Bhagavad Gita and ';A course in miracles'; collections are wonderful spiritual writings. Check them out. I am sure other responders can site their favorite readings from other countries and cultures.
....but what if it was true?





Say you lived somwhere where you had not connection to the outside ever. somehow you know how to read and someone brings you a bible. Would you believe it????? We're brought up to believe in what we believe. Which is why I sometimes admire aethist that even with all the ';evidence'; they still choose not to believe. yes, I'm a believer but it takes a lot to just say I don't believe.





If you don't want to believe, why do you care so much for those that do believe in it. Obviously you're not going to convert, so let it be!!!





By the way for many thousands of years the Pope was not a symbol of peace that he is today. They were mean and evil and did horrible and dispicable things yet they are revered today. I haven't read of a Mormon leader having gay sex, or with prostitutues or stealing money or having sex with little altar boys. Many many, many leaders of churches have done far worse things than Joseph Smith was ever accused of.

Their governing body has even changed his writings to cover his mistakes that he supposedly got directly from God. I don't understand it either.
